Songsmith
It has been a while, hasn’t it? But I believe that Uncle Murda has returned to his hideout, and it is now safe for my fams and me to emerge from our self-imposed cyber-exile to resume the valiant wordpressing of Bronze Medals.
What has inspired this joyous renaissance ? Nothing short of magic. The new music software from Microsoft, Songsmith, throws down an inspired challenge to the home-studio hegemony currently enjoyed by Apple with its GarageBand. Songsmith offers at last the opportunity for Windows users (such as your humble narrator) to explore the wondrous world of “music” making from the comfort of their desks and without the nuisance of learning actual instruments and theory, &c, &c. You see, all you have to do is sing, and Songsmith will construct around your voice an instrumental bed of which Brian Eno would be proud. There are, of course, many ways for you to personalize your project: choosing the style, locking in some chords and shifting others, for example, but don’t just take my word for it (trustworthy though I may be). Behold the advertisement, straight from the mouth of the beast, and make your own decisions.
Perhaps it is not worth the $29.95 list price. Perhaps it is not even worth the 98.49 MB of space on your hard drive. But the commercial surely earns its 4:17 of your day.
